About Resin 3D Printing

How is a resin 3D print different from a resin cast?

Traditional resin casting uses a mould. Resin is poured into the mould and allowed to cure, making casting suitable for producing larger quantities of the same model.

Our resin models are produced directly using MSLA 3D printers. This allows us to create highly detailed models without first producing a traditional mould, making on-demand production and a wider range of designs possible.

How are 3D models printed?

Our MSLA resin printers build the model one thin layer at a time. Liquid UV resin is selectively cured with ultraviolet light until the complete model is formed.

Temporary support structures are used during printing. After printing, the model is washed to remove uncured resin, the supports are removed, and the part is fully cured under UV light.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of resin 3D printing?

Resin 3D printing can reproduce fine details, complex shapes and deep undercuts very well, making it especially suitable for figurines, collectibles and detailed display models.

Very thin resin parts can be more brittle than some traditional cast materials, so delicate sections should be handled carefully. Resin models are suitable for priming, painting and display.

Commercially Licensed 3D Prints

Are you licensed to sell the 3D printed products listed on your website?

ROAR3D obtains the required commercial licenses from the original creators for the physical 3D printed products we are authorized to produce.

Commercial licenses apply to physical printed products and do not permit us to distribute the creators' original digital files.

Ordering a 3D Printed Model

How do I order a 3D print?

Browse the 3D printed products available in our store, choose the model and available size, add it to your cart and complete checkout as usual.

Once your order is confirmed, we prepare the model for production. Print time depends on the model's size and complexity. After printing, supports are removed and the model is cleaned, cured, checked and securely packed.

Our 3D printed products are generally made on demand, so preparation time may vary depending on the model and current production queue.

Print Quality & Preparation

What print resolution do you use?

Our collectible resin models are typically printed at a layer height of approximately 0.03 mm (30 microns), providing a high level of detail suitable for figurines and display models.

Very small layer lines can occasionally be visible on certain flat surfaces, but these can normally be reduced with light sanding during preparation.

Do I need to remove the printing supports?

We remove the main support structures before the model is fully cured. Occasionally a small support mark or minor cleanup point may remain and can be carefully sanded or trimmed if required.

Preparing Your Model for Painting

How should I prepare a resin model for painting?

The models are cleaned and fully cured before being prepared for the customer. If any dust or residue remains after sanding or handling, the model can be gently cleaned before priming.

Small support marks can be lightly sanded, and minor pits can be filled with suitable model filler. Applying primer also makes small imperfections easier to identify before painting.

Resin Care

Avoid leaving unpainted resin models exposed to strong UV light or direct sunlight for long periods, as continued UV exposure can make resin more brittle.

Assembly & Model Size

Are the models printed in one piece?

Many detailed models are printed in several parts. Splitting a model into separate sections can improve print quality, reduce unnecessary support marks and preserve more of the original detail.

Fully assembled options may be available for selected models. Contact us before ordering if you require assembly.

How is the price of a 3D printed model calculated?

Pricing depends largely on the selected model, scale, size and production requirements. Larger models require more resin and longer machine time, so they normally cost more to produce.

Available scales and sizes are shown on applicable product pages. Custom sizes can be reviewed where the design allows.
